How it works

The camera is the part worth understanding, so this page is about that rather than about features.

1

A story plays

A character leads a short video. Nothing is watching yet — the camera is only on if you turned it on.

2

The character asks

At a marked moment the character asks your child to do something: reach up high, clap, jump, hold up a cup. For a movement the story keeps going while it watches.

3

Your child moves

The app is already watching, so there is nothing to press. A pose model running inside your browser reads where their arms and shoulders are.

4

The story answers back

If it sees the movement the character says so and carries on. If not it asks again, a few times, then moves on kindly rather than leaving them stuck.

The movements

What your child does, and what the camera sees.

Reach up high

Your child stretches a hand up above their head, as if grabbing a star. The camera sees the hand rise high above the shoulder.

Clap hands

Hands come together in front of the body. The camera sees both hands meet, and the clap can be heard too.

Arms out wide

Both arms stretch out to the sides, as wide as they go. The camera sees the hands move far apart.

Jump

Both feet leave the floor. The camera sees the whole body rise and land again.

Wave

A hand goes up and moves from side to side. The camera sees the hand swing back and forth.

Lean left and lean right

Your child tips their body over to one side. The camera sees one shoulder drop lower than the other.

Crouch down small

Your child curls down small, close to the floor. The camera sees the head and shoulders drop low.

Slice

One arm sweeps quickly down in front of the body, like slicing fruit. The camera sees the fast swing of the arm.

What leaves your device

Movement — nothing leaves

The pose model runs in your browser. Each frame is examined and discarded as it is drawn. No video is recorded and no frame is sent anywhere.

Spoken answers — nothing leaves

Some stories ask your child to say an answer out loud, if you allow the microphone. The words are worked out inside your browser, and no recording is made or sent anywhere.

“Show me something red” — one photo, with permission

That one kind of question takes a single still photo and sends it to be described, then discards it. It is off unless you specifically allow it, and everything else still works if you decline.
